On March 11, 2014, the City of Vestavia Hills will be holding a special election regarding a tax renewal for the school system. Below are some important facts regarding the renewal.

 I.  This is not a new tax.
-This is a renewal of an existing 10.5 mill tax that was approved by the citizens of Vestavia Hills in   1990.
-The existing tax is due to expire in 2017.

II. Renewal of this existing tax is essential for the system to continue to provide quality schools and a world class education for our children.
-The existing tax represents 20% of our local revenue.
-The existing tax represents 11% of the system’s general fund revenue.
-These percentages equate to $6.3 million of annual revenue:
                  *$6.3 million equates to 84 teacher units
                  *$6.3 million equates to 20% of the teachers in our system

III. Loss of the 10.5 mill revenue will reduce our per pupil spending by $996 per student.  Negative impacts might include:
-Larger class sizes
-Elimination of programs (curricular and extra-curricular)
-Obsolete technology
-Deteriorating facilities
-Insufficient cash reserves

IV. Approval of this vital existing educational tax will NOT result in any new taxes.
-Renewal will continue an important source of school revenue.
-Our students and community have benefitted from this existing tax for the past 23 years.

Teachers- the Foundation's main purpose is to provide perpetual support to the Vestavia Hills Schools.  The Foundation Board of Directors wants to help you make an impact in your classroom.   Now is your opportunity to let the Foundation know what you need to continue to make the Vestavia schools the best in the state.  2013-2014 Grant applications are due  by November 15th.

Make A Difference - Join The Board

If you are passionate about education in Vestavia Hills then consider joining us.  The Vestavia Hills City Schools Foundation is seeking outstanding community volunteers and leaders to serve on its board of directors. This leadership group is a working board that exists to provide ongoing financial support to each Vestavia Hills school through the Foundation’s endowment and to protect and foster a standard of academic excellence in our school system.

Board members serve a three-year term as active ambassadors, fundraisers and leaders for the Foundation.

The 8th Annual Dinner & Diamonds benefiting the Vestavia Hills City Schools Foundation will be held at Ted’s Garage on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Last year this sold-out event drew more than 400 people. This year promises to be even bigger and better. 

Dinner & Diamonds is our flagship fundraiser. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the Foundation, and funds the operating budget which ensures the Foundation has the resources it needs to keep working to support our schools and teachers. The excellence of Vestavia Hills schools continues to define our community. Your support is critical to our future success, and is deeply appreciated by the citizens of Vestavia Hills.

Flash Mob For The Foundation

On August 16th, kids from all eight Vestavia Hills school participated in a "Flash Mob for the Foundation."   The Flash Mob was held during the Chamber of Commerce's I Love America Day celebration.  Thanks to the leadership of 9th Grader Stephanie Tunnell, students danced their way to raising $3000 for the Foundation's education endowment.

Teachers Welcomed Back To School

On Monday, August 12th, Vestavia Hills High School was full of energy as the employees of the Vestavia Hills Schools District were welcomed back to school.  The Teacher Institute is  a great way to get the school year kicked off on the right foot.   Thanks to all the wonderful teacher and staff of the school system. We know we will have a fantastic school year!
